The MySchool MyVillage MyPlanet fundraising programme is one of South Africa’s biggest community programmes. We raise funds for schools, charities and environmental organisations through a card system that allows supporters to raise funds for their beneficiary (school or charity) every time they shop at our partner stores. Partners make a contribution, on behalf of the supporter/cardholder, towards the beneficiary they have selected.
Get your free card now  at https://www.myschool.co.za/supporter/apply/
How can you support these causes?

How to help charities while buying your airtime and electricity

A new platform enables users to buy electricity, airtime and data – with each purchase contributing a percentage of proceeds to charity. But what makes it stand out is that this donation doesn't cost the consumer anything extra.
Virtual Good hopes to great a “generosity revolution” by encouraging consumers to make conscious buying choices that help those in need.
All you need to do is register on the Virtual Good site with your email address. Once the platform verifies this address, you can begin making purchases right away.
Each time you purchase airtime, data or electricity, you are able to select a beneficiary who will receive a portion of the funds. Beneficiaries include a range of schools, animal welfare organisations, education programmes, shelters and children’s homes.
A user’s payments are completed via either an Instant EFT (which requires an online banking profile) or a regular EFT. The platform also has a virtual currency called VG Credits, which users can earn through referring others to the platform. These credits than then be used to purchase services on the site.
According to the platform’s creators, there are no hidden costs or membership fees. They also plan to introduce ticket purchases and traffic fine and bill payments to the site.
The premise of the entire platform is based on the challenges facing charities and how the creators believe that normal people can help.
“ Most people have a desire to do good but do not have the disposable income to support charitable organisations. Charitable organisations that play a vital role in their communities are buckling under financial pressure and their very existence is threatened.”
— Virtual Good As a result, Virtual Good is offering the opportunity to make a contribution to charities at no cost to themselves. Rather, you simply need to use the platform.
“By harnessing the spend of the masses, charitable organisations benefit as a portion of the customer’s spend is donated to them.”
— Virtual Good This not only directly helps charities, but also cultivates a culture of philanthropy that could encourage people to take more steps towards helping others.
“Hopefully, once they do this and observe the social impact of the initiatives that they support, they will become willing to make contributions beyond the zero-cost threshold.”
— Alton Fisher, Director of Virtual Good It also provides a possible income source for users who spread the word and get others to sign up. If you accrue enough VG Credits, you can receive a cash payout from the balance.
But where does the money come from?
Director Alton Fisher told LeadSA that platforms that sell services on behalf of suppliers receive a commission since they are alleviating administrative costs. Therefore mobile providers and municipalities pay bulk sellers for their efforts.
“Instead of the supplier having to dealing with thousands of customers and all the admin that goes with that, they now only deal with one big customer.”
— Alton Fisher, Director of Virtual Good:
What Virtual Good is doing is taking this commission and splitting it between their company, the charity beneficiaries and the users who refer others. In fact, this commission is split into thirds.
“All commission earned by Virtual Good is Split 3 ways, 33% goes to the selected charitable organisation, 33% is allocated to the 2 tier referral structure (16.5% to your introducer and 16.5% to their introducer) Virtual Good retains the remaining 34% as gross profit.”
— Alton Fisher, Director of Virtual Good, This gives consumers the ability to donate funds at zero costs to themselves, while also earning themselves and their referrers discounts and cash back.
